The other probable names who could get the NSG security cut include UP chief minister Akhilesh Yadav, former Tamil Nadu CM M Karunanidhi and former Assam CM Tarun Gogoi.
Right now, about 15 politicians in India are under NSG security cover.
“The names for withdrawal of NSG cover was discussed last week in a meeting of the protection review group headed by home secretary Rajiv Mehrishi,” the Hindustan Times reported today quoting an unnamed home ministry official.
Reports said although the security to Indian politicians by elite commandoes is based on threat perception, of late it has become more a “status symbol”.
