PATNA: The Centre today said only one Central University namely Mahatma Gandhi Central University, Motihari has been established in the State of Bihar in the past three years.
The reply came from Minister of State for Human Resource Development in response to a question asked by senior Congress leader Mallikarjun Kharge in the Lok Sabha on Monday.

The minister informed Mahatma Gandhi Central University, Motihari has started the academic activities from 2016-17 session and a total number of 319 students have been enrolled.
At present, 42 teaching staff (1 Professor + 4 Associate Professor + 37 Assistant Professor) have been appointed as on 1.11.2016, he said.
He stated that this university is an autonomous body established under an Act of Parliament and it can take all academic and administrative decisions as per its Act and Statutes framed thereunder.
As the University is at its infancy stage, filling up of new posts is a continuous process and it depends upon starting of new programmes, availability of infrastructure etc.
