Media reports have said the raids were conducted in connection with the gross irregularities in awarding tenders for hotel maintenance while Prasad was the railway minister.

The RJD president was not present at home and had gone to Ranchi to appear in a fodder scam case when the raids were carried out.

Reports said a case has also been registered by the CBI against Prasad, wife Rabri Devi and their deputy chief minister son Tejashwi Yadav in connection with the alleged irregularities.

The raids come days after a series of allegations leveled against Prasad and his family by senior BJP leader Sushil Kumar Modi in the past two months.

Modi has accused Prasad family of earning huge benami property by forming frond companies or other fraudulent measures.

The RJD has reacted bitterly, describing it as the darkest day in Indian democracy.
