Case filed against Shah Rukh as chit fund firm dupes investors in Bihar


PATNA: A complaint case has been filed against Bollywood star Shah Rukh Khan in Bihar for endorsing the Prayag Group of Companies now accused of duping investors.

The case was filed in a local district court in Purnia on Friday by one Abdul Gaffar, one of the agents of the company. The case has been filed under various sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).

In his complaint petition, the complainant alleged the Prayag Group had duped poor investors and the Bollywood star is also partly responsible for it since he was company’s brand ambassador.

“Poor investors deposited their money with the company after being lured by the photograph of the actor but at the time of maturity, branches of Prayag Group were closed down,” the complaint alleged.

The court of chief judicial magistrate Awadhesh Kumar has fixed the matter for hearing on June 27.

According to the company’s own website, Prayag Group of Companies is a well diversified group with interest in Real Estate, Hotels and Resorts, Biscuits and Cakes, Packaged Drinking Water, FMCG, Tea, Pineapple processing unit, News & Electronic Media, Cements, Block Tiles/Pavers, Fly ash Bricks, Fisheries, Poultry Hatchery, Composite Farming, Aviation and multi other projects.

It also owns a Film City. The Company which was established in 2002 has its corporate office at Kolkata.
