Brides reject greedy, drunk grooms during wedding in Bihar
Both seeking dowry and alcohol consumption are legally banned in Bihar
PATNA: Girls in Bihar have taken upon the task to punish the greedy and drunk grooms. This comes after the state government’s campaign against dowry or alcohol consumption appears losing steam.
The first incident was reported from Patna district where a bride rejected the greedy after he demanded Rs 1 lakh as dowry at the time of wedding. The incident took place at Brahmpur village under Phulwarisharif block in Patna on Sunday.
The wedding of Jyoti Kumari, daughter Kameshwar Singh, had been fixed with Rahul Kumar. On Sunday, a wedding procession even reached the house of the girl and the guests were given warm welcome.
Then came a twist in the tale. Right during the garland exchange ceremony, the groom demanded Rs 100,000 as dowry in exchange for completing the ritual. He remained adamant on getting the money then and there.
The greedy nature of the groom angered the bride so much so that she not only rejected the groom but also called up the local police and got him arrested.
“We have arrested the groom and his father and are interrogating them. They will be sent to jail if the dowry charges are proved,” a local police official Kaisar Alam told the media today.
Another such incident was reported from Raghuvirchak village under Rajnagar police station in Madhubani district where a bride rejected the groom after he came for wedding drunk.
Radha Kumari had reached the stage to garland his would-be life partner Suman Kumar but was shocked to find him staggering and hurling abuses at guests under the influence of liquor.
Without wasting any moment, she spurned the groom and left the dais in a huff. Ultimately, the groom returned home empty-handed.
