Blame it on roads: No ‘barat’ came to this Bihar village in past four years!

PATNA: Lack of an approach road has halted the marriage of dozens of youths from a village in Bihar, forcing them to lead the life of bachelors.

The matter pertains to Pakad Bigha village tucked away in Jehanabad district of Bihar, some 40 km south of Patna. The village is home to 600 villagers.

As a result of which, the youths attaining marriageable age either have to move out of the village and take shelter in the house of kin or go to nearby temples to get their marriage solemnized, villagers said.

“None wants to bring marriage processions at this village since there is no road. In the past four years, no barat has come to the village,” a local villager Rakesh Yadav was quoted as saying in the local media today.

Quite many youths too failed to get brides as girls’ families summarily rejected the marriage proposals. Ramji Yadav, Rakesh Yadav and Ranjay Kumar are some of the youths who are yet to get married. All are in the 40’s now.
