BJP MP Sakshi Maharaj blames Muslims for India’s population boom
Meerut: BJP lawmaker Sakshi Maharaj has triggered a controversy by stating that India’s population rise is due to the Muslim community.
“If country is facing problem due to population rise then the Hindus are not responsible for it. Population rise is due to those who support the concept of four wives and 40 children,” said BJP parliamentarian from Unnao, addressing an event in Meerut on Friday.

The BJP, however, distanced itself from the remark.
“This should not be taken as the stand of the BJP,” Union Minister Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi told reporters.
A police complaint has been filed against Maharaj, reports said.
