PATNA: Senior BJP leader and former union minister Yashwant Sinha has hit out at the party leadership for celebrating the note ban on its first anniversary saying the idea didn’t serve any purposes.
“Before celebrating the note ban, the party should have declared how much black money it was able to detect due to the note ban. It should have avoided that,” Sinha who arrived here to participate in a function told the media on Thursday.
He questioned the party’s celebration over the issue and said before doing that it should have made it clear in what way the note ban helped the country.
“It is being widely publicized that the government launched surgical strike on the black money by implementing the note ban but the government didn’t disclose how much black money it was able to detect,” asked Sinha.
A recent report of the Reserve Bank of India too revealed 99 percent of demonetized notes returned to the banks.
“Subject to future corrections based on verification process when completed, the estimated value of SBNs (specified bank notes) received as on June 30, 2017 is Rs 15.28 trillion,” the RBI said in the report in August this year.
