Bihar woman sold to brothel for not bringing enough dowry after marriage


PATNA: A woman from Bihar was allegedly sold off to a brothel by in-laws after her parents failed to cough up enough dowry at the time of her marriage.

The horrible incident relates to Katihar district of Bihar. The police have registered case and investigation is on.

Reports said the victim who hails from Santhalpur village under Kodha police station in Katihar district had been married to a man from neighbouring Araria district some seven years back.

Soon after marriage, her in-laws started torturing the woman after which she returned to her parents’ house.

Sometime later, in-laws reached her parents’ home to take her back with the promise that they won’t keep her safe but later sold her to a brothel in Uttar Pradesh after serving her sedative-laced food.

The entire incident came to light after the victim fled from the brothel and returned to her parent’s home to recount her horror. She returned home after four years.The police have taken the matter seriously and announced to initiate tough actions against the accused persons.

“We have found the case prima facie true and are conducting raids to nab the accused persons. They would be caught very soon,” Katihar district superintendent of police Vikas Kumar told the media on Sunday.
