Bihar topper scandal: Jailed topper Ruby Rai granted bail

A special juvenile court granted her bail after hearing a petition. Earlier, she had been denied her bail twice.

She had pleaded that she should be granted bail as she is a minor.

In June, she was arrested and sent to jail after she failed to answer any of the questions asked by experts to test her knowledge.

Soon after her arrest, she was sent to the Beur central jail in Patna— home to many hardcore Maoists, dreaded gangsters, rapists and corrupt officials.

Initially, Ruby was sent to Beur prison but after it was proved she is a minor, she was then shifted to a remand home.

Ruby had topped this year’s Class 12 examination conducted by the Bihar School Examination Board (BSEB) in humanities stream.

She found herself in deep trouble soon after she gave ludicrous answers to elementary questions related to her subjects during a Television interview.

Not only did she wrongly pronounced the political science as “prodikal science” but also said this particular subject is all about “cooking”

Ruby, a student of Vishun Rai College in Vaishali who scored 444 marks out of total 500 and was declared Arts topper in this year’s intermediate examination, is widely credited for unearthing of the mega merit scam due to her poor knowledge of subjects.
