Bihar to train overseas workers in job skills, spoken English to end their exploitation

PATNA: The Bihar Labour Resources Department in Bihar has announced to activate its Overseas Employment Bureau to help unemployed workers get overseas employment.

Authorities said the department would impart training to workers in job skills and also make them conversant in English to ensure they don’t get exploited by the recruitment agencies while on job.

“Lack in spoken English skills always poses troubles to overseas workers. So we have decided to make them conversant in English to properly deal with the problems,” a government official told the local media today.

As per a rough estimate, more than 50,000 people from Bihar are currently employed in foreign countries.

Majority of the people working in foreign countries hails from Saran, Siwan, Gopalganj and Darbhanga.

The Bihar State Overseas Employment Bureau is already functioning in the state but it’s not fully active now, as per reports. The government is now assessing how many staffs it needs to recruit to properly run the office.

The state government in the meanwhile has allotted Rs 4 crore (Rs40 million) to infuse life in its overseas employment bureau.
