Bihar: Revolt in Lalu party over Ram Jethmalani’s ‘nomination’ to Rajya Sabha

PATNA: Revolt has broken out in the RJD headed by Lalu Prasad over the party’s move to nominate Ram Jethmalani, prominent criminal lawyer, to the Rajya Sabha.

Jethmalini has been looking after the fodder scam cases of RJD chief Prasad. Of the six cases pending against him, Prasad has been convicted in one such case so far.

“Yadavs and Muslims have their first claims over the Rajya Sabha seats but by nominating Jethmalani to the Upper House, Lalu Prasad is denying the Muslims their genuine rights,” alleged senior RJD leader Ejaj Ali, considered close to the party president.

“Lalu perhaps thinks Jethmalani will get a ‘clean chit’ for him in the fodder scan but if he doesn’t, Lalu will be left nowhere,” warned Ali who is known as the leader of Dalit Muslims.

Sources said the RJD chief has “decided” to nominate his wife Rabri Devi to the other RS seat coming to the party’s share.

This move too can cause heartburns among the party leaders as Prasad has gone on openly following “dynastic politics”.

Right now, Prasad’s wife is already a Member of Bihar Legislative Council while both his sons, Tej Pratap Yadav and Tejashwi Prasad Yadav, are ministers in the Nitish Kumar government.

Likewise, his eldest daughter Misa Bharti has been given a berth in the RJD’s national executive.
