Bihar policemen’s Assn president, secretary dismissed for drinking liquor

PATNA: Bihar Policemen’s Association (BPA) president Nirmal Singh and its general secretary Shamsher Alam Khan have been dismissed from service for drinking liquor in violation of existing liquor laws.

The action comes some six months after they were caught drinking liquor and charges against them were found to be true, reports said.

Both were arrested in May this year after they were found creating ruckus and allegedly hurling abuses at senior police officials under the influence of alcohol at the local Patna police lines.

Subsequently, they were arrested and sent to jail although they managed to get bail.

Soon after the incident, the authorities initiated departmental proceedings against them and also issued show-cause notices to them.

However, as their clarifications were found unsatisfactory, both were finally fired from jobs.

Bihar imposed total liquor ban in April last year.
