PATNA: BJP leader Sushil Kumar Modi on Thursday filed a defamation suit against Congress president Rahul Gandhi for his “all thieves have Modi surnames” comments.

Modi who currently happens to be deputy chief minister in the ruling NDA government in Bihar filed his complaint in the local Patna civil court, charging the accused with hurting their sentiments.

Gandhi in his speech had allegedly said all the thieves such as Nirav Modi and Lalit Modi have common surnames.

“…Nirav Modi, Lalit Modi, Narendra Modi…how come they all have Modi as common name. How come all the thieves have Modi as the common name?” Gandhi was quoted as saying in his election speeches which earned the ire of Bihar Modi.

The remarks have enraged the BJP. On Wednesday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi himself had also accused the Congress chief of insulting a entire community.
