Bihar midday meal tragedy: School principal sentenced to 17-year imprisonment for death of 23 children

PATNA: A local court in Bihar today sentenced a school principal to 17 years imprisonment for the death of 23 children in school three years back.

The court of additional district judge-II Vijay Anand Tiwari served this judgment to school principal Meena Devi, terming it as the “rarest of rare case”.

Witnesses said soon after hearing the judgment, school principal broke down and started crying bitterly in the court.

On August 24, the principal had been held guilty by the court in the case. The court, however had acquitted her husband.

All the children had died after eating spurious mid-day meal at a primary school at Dharmasti-Gandaman village located under Masrak block in Saran district on July 16, 2013.
