Bihar liquor tragedy: Viscera report denies presence of alcohol in victims’ bodies


PATNA: The viscera report of the villagers who died under mysterious circumstances in Bihar has not confirmed presence of alcohol in their body.

At least 22 villagers had died after allegedly consuming spurious liquor at Khajurbanni village in Gopalganj district last week.

Gopalganj is home district of RJD chief Lalu Prasad.

“The viscera report of seven victims sent for forensic test has not confirmed presence of alcohol in their bodies,” says a report published in a local media on Thursday.

Earlier the postmortem report too had denied presence of the intoxicating substance.

Taking the incident seriously, the state government has suspended 25 police officials in connection with the hooch deaths in Bihar and also confiscated the houses of alleged liquor deaths accused persons.

The police have already arrested the key accused in the case and sent him to jail

Action came after Bihar chief minister Nitish Kumar while taking the matter seriously announced tough actions against the culprits.
