Bihar invites Obama to attend Champaran centenary celebrations

PATNA: The state government in Bihar extended an invite to former US president Barack Obama and his wife to attend a function being orgaised to commemorate 100 years of Mahatma Gandhi’s first visit to Champaran from where he launched a non-violent movement against the Britishers.

Apart from him, Tibetan spiritual leader Dalai Lama and state counselor of Myanmar Aung San Suu Kyi too are being invited. All are said to be impressed with the ideologies of Mahatma Gandhi.

A four-day programme is to be held in Patna from April 10 during which some 800 distinguished guests from Indian and abroad are scheduled to attend the function, as per media reports.

Authorities said the state government has planned to organize the event on a massive scale quite like the  Prakash Parva of the 10 Sikh Guru, Guru Gobind Singh held in Patna last month.

As per the report, the government has invited global tenders to select the event management company for this programme.

The state government has announced year-long celebrations to mark 100 years of Champaran satyagrah to reach the ideology of Mahatma Gandhi to every household.

On Monday, Tirhut administration released a logo specially designed to commemorate the “Champaran centenary celebrations.
