“I pray to the court for changing my cadre as I apprehend threat to my life,” was how Gupta reportedly requested the court in his petition, as per media reports.

A 2013-batch IAS officer, Gupta had hit the headlines when he was arrested by the state vigilance department for allegedly taking bribe form truckers in Kaimur district in July last year and was later sent to jail.

Subsequently, he was placed under suspension. Barely a month later the state government revoked his suspension and posted as officer on special duty in the state’s environment and forest department at Patna secretariat after he was cleared of corruption charges.
