PATNA: An AIDS patient died shortly after he was refused admission to a government hospital in Bihar, victim family members have alleged.
The victim who worked as a peon with the Patna high court had been brought to a premier government hospital in Patna after his condition deteriorated on Friday.
However, the authorities refused to admit him and instead advised the family to shift him to Patna Medical College and Hospital (PMCH) or better treatment.
The family members soon left for the PMCH but their ambulance got stuck in severe traffic jam. By the time, they reached the hospital, doctor declared the patient having brought dead.
An official with the Bihar State AIDS Control Society said the victim family should have contacted the society if they faced any harassment at the hands of the hospital.
A latest report of the National AIDS Control Organisation (NACO) says of the total number of estimated 2.14 million HIV cases in India, Bihar has roughly 115,000 people living with this disease.
