Bihar govt blacklists HDFC bank after cheque given to Sukma martyr family bounces

PATNA: The state government in Bihar today blacklisted the HDFC bank a day after a cheque given to the widow of martyred Ranjeet Kumar as compensation bounced.

The cheque of Rs 500,000 had been given to the martyred family in Sheikhpura district by the Nitish Kumar government after reports of his martyrdom came in.

“The cheque bounced owing to the faulty system of the bank, and not due to error in signature or insufficient amount in the account,” a Press statement issued by the state government said on Thursday.

The Press release said the government also registered a case against the branch manager of the bank concerned and closed the government’s account with the bank which was also blacklisted for its malfunctioning.

The said amount in the meanwhile has been credited to the bank account of Kumar’s widow.

Kumar along with five others soldiers had been killed by Maoists in Sukma district of Chattisgarh last month.
