Bihar court rejects Shahabuddin’s demand for ‘choice’ lawyer at government’s cost

PATNA: A local court in Siwan today rejected the controversial RJD politician Mohammad Shahabuddin’s demand for an advocate at government cost to plead his case, as per media reports.

The District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) which heard this case today rejected this demand by Shahabuddin saying the special court has no panel of advocates, reports quoting a local newspaper said today.

The matter came for hearing today after the jailed RJD politician had put this demand before a special court some two months back citing his crippled financial condition.

Subsequently, the matter was sent for consideration before the DLSA which eventually rejected the demand today.

Shahabuddin faces over 50 criminal cases as serious as murder, abduction, sedition and extortion pending against him.

Of them, judgment has been delivered in some six cases while the rest cases are in various stages of trial.
