Bihar court acquits youth of rape charges as he agrees to marry victim

PATNA: A local court in Bihar acquitted a youth of his rape charges and also ordered for his release from jail after he agreed to marry the rape victim. The accused was lodged in Bhagalpur jail.

The rapist identified as Abhishek Shukla, a resident of Bansikita village in Bhagalpur district, had sexually exploited a local girl on the pretext of marrying her but he later refused to keep his promise.

Subsequently, the victim filed a case against the accused in February last year after which he was sent to jail.

During his stay in jail, however, the accused filed a petition in the court promising to marry the victim. The victim too agreed.

Acting on his request, the court of the additional district and sessions judge Jai Prakash acquitted the accused of his charges and ordered for his release from jail.

Subsequently, he was released from jail yesterday.
