PATNA: Bihar chief minister Nitish Kumar today suspended party legislator Mewalal Chaudhary from the JD-U after the police registered a case against him for alleged illegal appointments.
The case was registered with the Sabaour police station in Bhagalpur district on Tuesday after Chaudhary’s name figured in the appointment scam.
All these illegal appointments took place in the Bihar Agricultural University, Bhagalpur where the accused served as its vice-chancellor prior to joining politics, reports said.
The case was registered on the orders by the Governor of Bihar who also happens to be the Chancellor of the Universities of the State.
Chaudhary is a first time lawmaker. He was elected from Tarapur seat in Munger district in 2015 assembly elections.
Prior to him, his wife Neeta Chaudhary had represented this seat.
