“One of the main reasons behind poverty in the family is drinking habit of the family heads and the women folk should come forward to save their family from getting ruined,” the MP told the media today.
He said the women would have to lead the campaign from the front and prevent their husbands/children from drinking at all costs. “If they still refuse to listen to their appeals, the women should beat them up with brooms to quit their addiction,” he suggested.
He said it would require everybody’s support to make the liquor ban declaration of the government to be effective from April 1 a grand success.
The Nitish Kumar government, it may be mentioned here, has announced to ban sale and consumption of liquor in the state from next financial year in view of rising demands from the women folk who said the drinking is running their family life.
As part of its strategy to enforce total liquor ban, the state government has already planned to bring out a strong legislation which will have a provision for death. Under the new legislation, the people found guilty of selling spurious liquor which ultimately leads to deaths could be awarded death. Consumption of spurious liquor has been causing many deaths in the state every year.
The new law will also have tough punishment for those caught drinking in public places or involved in illegal hoarding of liquor.
The government has already decided to give only one bottle of foreign liquor to tipplers in a day from the next financial year.
