Arrested Bihar gangster claims collecting over Rs 500 millions as extortion

PATNA: A dreaded gangster from Bihar has confessed to collecting over Rs 50 crore (Rs 500 million) as extortion money from various businessmen, construct companies and others.

Gangster Mukesh Pathak who was on the run for the past over seven months was arrested by the police from Jharkhand on Monday.

The gangster reportedly told his interrogators that initially he would send one Prabhakar to collect extortions from the parties but after differences with him, he later engaged his brother Amit Pandey in the job.

As per reports, Pathak who faces some 17 cases of murder, kidnapping and extortion centered into the world of crime after the killing of two members of his family by criminals.

He also revealed he had the patronage of a former minister, some parliamentarians and other leaders who also helped his flee from jail earlier.

The police were actively looking for him after his name figured in the daylight killing of two engineers engaged in road construction works in December last year.

Pathak is a son of a retired air force official Lalan Pathak, a resident of Mahiabag locality under Mahesi police station in east Champaran  district
