PATNA: A local court in Bihar on Tuesday awarded death sentence to an accused and life imprisonment to seven other accused in the 2015 Ara court blast case.
District and Session judge Tribhuvan Yadav handed out death sentence to Lambu Sharma and life sentence to other seven accused persons after holding them guilty in the case, media reports said today.
Two persons, including a police constable, had been killed in the Ara blast case.
Last week the court had acquitted former JD-U legislator Sunil Pandey in the case for want of evidence. The court, however, convicted eight persons in this case.
Pandey, a criminal-turned-politician, faces more than two dozen criminal cases, as serious as murder, kidnapping and extortion.
A local court in Bihar has already sentenced him to life for kidnapping of a Patna neurosurgeon Dr Ramesh Chandra. The doctor was kidnapped in 2003.
The police had filed a charge sheet against 11 persons, including Pandey and had produced 39 witnesses in the case, reports said.
