800 tourists stranded in Andamans due to storms, Navy launches rescue operation


New Delhi/Port Blair: About 800 tourists are stranded in Andamans’ tourist magnet Havelock Island owing to storm as the Indian Navy has engaged itself in a rescue mission, defence sources said.

“#HADR Indian Navy swings in 2 [to]  action 2 [to] evacuate 800 stranded tourists at Havelock Is[land]. 4 ships sailed ex Port Blair & in area,” tweeted the Indian Navy.

Reports said the administration in Andamans had sought the help of Navy after heavy rainfall in Havelock.
