Reports quoting local villagers said some 500 Dalits have converted to Christianity while pressures are on to make the remaining Dalits embrace this religion.
The local media today reported the conversion which began four months back picked up momentum after a local villager Moti Mushar embraced the new faith out of repeated troubles in the family.
“After embracing the new religious, I got out of all troubles in the family and also superstitious beliefs. Now my family is leading a happy life,” Yogendra Mushar quoted Moti as having told them.
The development led to a mad rush among the Dalit community to join the new fait and in the past four months, around 500 Dalit villagers have embraced Christianity, reports said.
“We have ordered an investigation into the matter. Action will be taken if it was established that the Dalits were converted under pressures or offering allurements,” the local Buxur district magistrate Raman Kumar told the media today.
