PATNA: Authorities in Bihar have suspended 45 policemen for taking bribes from heavy vehicles to allow them pass through the banned routes of Mahamta Gandhi bridge now under repair.
The action was taken on the complaint that the cops had been collecting money from overloaded vehicles to allow them pass through the route.
Reports said the cops had been collecting about Rs2 lakh to Rs3 lakh per day from these vehicles.
Each vehicle was being charged around Rs1,000 and the whole idea was being operated in a planned way, reports said.
“45 policemen have been placed under suspension for taking bribe for allowing heavy vehicles on the bridge,” Patna traffic SP D Amarkesh told the media today.
The axed cops included 13 police officials.
