PATNA: At least 17 people were killed in lightning strike in Bihar as heavy rains lashed the state, media reports said.
According to reports in the local media, lightning accompanied with rains caused heavy casualty in various parts of the state in the past 12 hours.

Most of the deaths were reported from Kaimur, east Champaran, Jehanabad and Muzaffarpur districts.

Lightning incidents have registered a sudden rise in Bihar in recent months. Earlier in July this year, at least 41 people, quite many of them women and children, were killed in lightning strike in the state.
Authorities are alarmed at sudden spurt in lightning cases iihar, claiming several lives at regular intervals.
Alarmed officials are frequently giving advertisements in local news papers detailing do’s and don’ts during the time of heavy rains.
